Dear Mom, Your 8 1/2-year-old great-granddaughter wrote you a letter today. Grace is the catcher for her girls’ softball team, and I included a picture of her in her catcher’s gear, which is so complicated that you have to take my word for it: yes, that’s Grace. Here are the pictures from her walk, and the letter she wrote to you, Mom. You are a lucky great-grandmother to have such a fine girl!
Things I Want To Tell My Mother 
love … simple and direct! Got to love honesty of kids.
Honesty, energy, creativity…and no patience for nonsense. It was so much fun watching Grace do this.
Love this! Especially the catchers gear. My daughter is a catcher! I have a similar picture of her at that age.
We could have shared one picture and both claimed it. Catchers on kids’ teams look like robot characters for The Avengers by the time they’re geared up, but I’m not complaining. When I was growing up, the catcher had the most dangerous job, what with all the wild swinging of bats, and we didn’t have all the protective gear!

How sweet and kind of Grace to not only write a letter to her grandmother but add visuals to it, to make sure grandma didn’t miss anything. My kids are getting to the age when they start to do things like that, it’s very cool to observe.
Actually, the letter was to Grace’s Mor-Mor-Mor (Swedish for mother’s mother’s mother), her great-grandmother, which is very sweet and thoughtful. It’s 200 miles to visit her great-grandmother, and even when they go for a visit, my mother is pleasant but doesn’t realize these are her great-grandchildren, or even related to her at all. At 8 1/2, Grace hopes that the letter and pictures might “help” great-grandma remember. Ah, if only it were that easy. But still it’s a thoughtful effort. I’m glad your children do things like this, too.
Well, Mor-Mor-Mor, you might also like to know that amazing GracieBeth got her first hit of the season on the same day the catcher-picture was taken. At same time on an adjacent field, your great-grandson–Gannon the banana-piranha–was sliding into home-plate to score a run for his team. I wish you could have been there. You woulda been hootin’ and hollerin’ right along with the rest of the family!

As Tom Hanks said in A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN: “Crying? There’s no crying in baseball!” Or anything sweet about playing catcher in all that awful, heavy, hot gear. (But she really is just the sweetest girl ever!) ;=)
Grace, I read your post and am impressed with the neat pictures you took for your Mor-Mor of your hop scotch, Wildcats and Jayhawks. I used to like Hop Scotch when I was little. Grace, you don’t know, but I once saw the Jayhawks play in Liberty Bowl Stadium in Memphis, and they were impressive! Keep up your good work, Grace. You make me proud!
